A refined narrative inspired by colourful characters and a refreshing mentality, the team at Billy Shears The Hair Club have been writing their own hairdressing fairytale to influence both client’s and the industry’s best.
By taking out the suffocating seriousness that most salons follow, the team at Billy Shears have put warmth back into hairdressing.
The salon has garnered a reputation as the place to go to for polished yet undone hair in a relaxed environment that speaks the language of it’s clients and not just the order of hairdressing. Whether it’s funky and stylish, bold and out there, a standard cut or colour, maintenance advise or tips on how to care for your hairstyle, the team at Billy Shears has gone beyond the realms of a traditional salon service.
The salon originated with David, Internationally renowned and in great demand on the educational circuit within the industry, and then developed firstly with his son Javier. Trained by David he is now a competent haircutter. Then joining the team was Lauren, a very experienced stylist who has worked in all facets of the hairdressing industry and is a great haircutter and colourist.
“We like to profile our team members as we want to make sure that the salon is not just a David show and for that reason we have these dynamic individuals on board, each with their own confident style that is united by a common understanding of hair and their clients. It’s this philosophy that underscores both the salon’s decor and the creative individuals within it.” says David.
David continues to mentor and share his enthusiasm for hairdressing in a space that enables both chic execution for client services as well as encouraging top class education.
The team are ambassadors for Landoll Milano, a very exclusive brand of hairdressing products from Italy, and as such the products are used in the salon.
Lauren and Javier commenting on the products had this to say. “We have noticed that client’s are more aware of what they want from a salon and the products used. Consumers today research into products and therefore their expectations are higher. Currently our clients are very finish orientated, are more aware of creating an individual style to their hair within the haircut which in turn emphasises the texture within the design.”
The salon almost feels as though it has evolved organically, with a slight push from great initiative and imagination. A fine experience with great hairdressing and a nice time that will put a spring in your step, that’s the core of the Billy Shears The Hair Club experience.

So the legend would have it Billy was born in Liverpool in 1895. He began his hairdressing career at 14 years of age and soon showed his talents for expert cutting. Six years later he opened his own salon - client's traveled from miles around to have their haircut by the talented Billy.
Soon he was the most famous hairdresser in his hometown of Liverpool but Billy wanted more. He wanted to pass on his creative ideas to others and most of all he wanted to lift his industry and make it respected.
He began to travel to show others his talents. Hairdressers everywhere would clamor to see him perform his techniques and he is reputed, by his peers of that time long ago, to have been the first hairdresser to evolve systems of cutting with his now famous shears.
As Billy traveled around he began to unite hairdressers in a common cause to make a better industry for all. He became a champion of this cause and by the early 1960's, a now famous but much older and wiser Billy, began to see hairdressing unfold into the respected industry it has become for us today.
It is also said that around this time four young Liverpool musicians went to his salon for a new look. After his death a few years later, those same four now famous musicians, sang about a Billy Shears on one of their unforgettable albums. Could they have been paying tribute to him?
Billy's name will live on forever and in some way we owe it to the legend of Billy Shears to keep his ideals of ethics, education, artistry and creativity alive for future generations of hairdressers.
